A sweet woven tunic or dress, the Washi by Made by Rae is a great sewing pattern for the sewist not quite ready for zippers or closures. This intermediate sewing pattern features a scoop neckline with the option for an adorable u-shaped cutout. The pattern also includes the option to attach small cap sleeves (the Washi Expansion Pack includes even more sleeve and neckline options). Sew yours up in a lightweight voile for the perfect spring and summer top.

The Washi Tunic pictured above was sewn in a quilting cotton from Imagine Gnats.

Additional Notes

This sewing pattern includes all pattern pieces and step-by-step instructions with illustrations.

I will definitely be making a few more!

I added a lining to replace the facing - and hong-kong'ed the seams to cut back on the fraying chambray - and the only chane I will make for future versions is I will add 1inch to length. I cut the pockets separately as the pattern suggests as an option. LOVE LOVE LOVE this dress - the shirring at the back is a turkey dinner blessing!

I have made one before and struggled with an FBA. Luckily I did not need to do it for this one. The ruching took some practice. Not a beginner pattern.

I found the directions to be extremely detailed and easy to follow. The only adjustment I made to the pattern was to make the armholes slightly larger.

Loved using it. Planning to use it for a maxi length dress next!

The Washi Dress is one of my wardrobe staple patterns, along with the Washi Expansion Pack. Highly recommended.

I did not enjoy working with the elastic thread. I have a nice Janome sewing machine but it made a noise when I was "shirring" which made me nerves. I only "shirred" 3 rows not 6 because of the noise. Need to call the place that sold me my sewing machine and figure this out.

Comfortable and glattering for my curvy figure
