I'm Kim, the hands and heart behind Daisy Faye Designs. I'm happiest when my hands are busy, whether that be caring for my son, playing with pretty fabrics, or taking pictures in the desert.

Happy Tuesday, sewing friends! I’m Kim from Daisy Faye Designs and I’m so excited to be here talking about one of my favorite past times: selfish sewing!

I spend most of my sewing time working on items for my Etsy shop, so I jumped at the chance to HAVE to make something for myself. I still consider myself to be an enthusiastic beginner when it comes to apparel sewing and I always enjoy the challenge and skills gained from each new pattern.

I’ve been purchasing sewing patterns through Indiesew pretty much from their inception and I’m blown away by how many patterns they offer now! I knew I was going to sew a transitional piece and the Dropje Hooded Vest stood out to me immediately. | Selfish Sewing Week

Living in the Arizona desert (where it’s still 100 degrees!), we rarely have the need for a coat. I’ve found vests to be the perfect layering piece.  They make an outfit feel a little more fallish without adding too much warmth. And with a long sleeve top and a scarf, it’s really all I need for the mild winters here.

For the fabric, I went with my favorite flannel buffalo plaid. The pattern includes great details like darts for shape and style. The topstitching is great touch that makes the finished vest look, well, finished! And the hood is so cute! My biggest regret is that I didn’t use a contrasting print for the inside of the hood.

For the most part, the pattern came together quickly and easily and the instructions were very clear.  The only place I could have used a little more clarification was when it came time to insert the zipper and attach the facing, but I followed the instructions carefully and it all came together!  This likely wouldn’t be an issue for a more experience apparel seamstress, but beginners can definitely handle it.  I love that I have a versatile piece of outerwear that’s perfect for the season!

Thank you so much to Indiesew for inviting me to be a part of selfish sewing week. I hope there is more selfish sewing in my future and in yours!

Indiesew provided me the Dropje Vest sewing pattern as part of Selfish Sewing Week, but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
